A MICRO REGION CLOSER TO THE CLOUDS
High Country Tours With Taste are located in the High Country Hamlets town of Pechey in Southern Queensland.
High Country Hamlets is Queensland's first and foremost micro region specialising in high altitude produce and visitor experiences.
Nestled 650 metres above the South East Queensland coastal plain we are high up on the eastern edge of the Great Dividing Range escarpment, just north of Toowoomba and approximately 2 hours’ drive from Brisbane, Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
The High Country Hamlets are made up of small country towns centred around Hampton, Pechey & Ravensbourne, extending north to Crows Nest, Anduramba & Cooyar, south to Highfields, Meringandan & Lilyvale & west to Goombungee.
The cool climate micro-region is often bathed in clouds and has a special foodie and hospitality subculture. A combination of altitude, distinctive seasons and red soil allows produce to be grown that is not possible elsewhere in Queensland.
Abundant, seasonal food crops grown by large & small artisanal producers are creatively embraced by impassioned local chefs and restaurants as well as being available for purchase at farm gates and local outlets.
Relaxed, friendly, charming accommodation, away from the rush and bustle of the city - wood fires in the Winter, quiet country walks in the National Parks or down sylvan laneways. Picnics by the lakes or a spectacular lookout.
The Hamlets is also home and inspiration for an impressive enclave of artists, craftspeople and boutique retailers. Their works and wares are on display and available for purchase at a number of small galleries, markets and retail outlets scattered across the region.
The High Country Hamlets are rich with practical and artistic folk, offering airy and generous country hospitality.
We would love you to join us, if even just for a weekend - it might just change your life forever.
